T'was the tragedy before Christmas
Tragedy strikes just before the Christmas holiday. Taken from their natural habitat, the Maryland blue crabs were moved far away from their home, chilled to their very core... so we tried to do our best to save them. They seem to be more comfortable when they are together, so we grouped then all together into a deep pot. They calmed down quite a bit but still seemed very unsettled. So we poured on some sea salt and Old Bay seasoning... they got very quiet... But still seemed very cold. So we thought they might enjoy being warmer, so we turned on the heat. And to make them feel cozy and warm up quick, we put a lid on top of the pot.
Good intensions aside, and despite our best efforts, much to our surprise... we lost track of the time, so when we returned to check on them, it was to late. As the burst of stream cleared when lifting the lid, our lively blue crabs were not moving and had turned a bright reddish orange color.
Oh the humanity of it all. We had some friends planning to come over, but had to call them, telling them to stay home. As much as this tragedy affected us, it would completely devastate them... You see, we believe they are vegetarians, so we simply had to spare them this anguish. So here we sit, by ourselves, having to deal with this self made careless tragedy. So we spread them out across the table, looking at what we had done. The shame of it all. I felt bad... I think I need a cold beverage. So what do we do now?
