Disney world

Disney World... The Pros and cons...

A recent post on a Facebook Disney site asked a question. What do you think needs to be changed or made better at Disney World? The answers were what I'd say we're expected.

Prices... Park Admission prices going too high.
Extra fees... Fast passes that use to be free.
Priority seating at extra fees.
Extra charges... Hotel parking that use to be free.
Reservation system changes making things almost impossible.
Disney food... Prices up,  quality down.
Disney merchandise...  Increased prices, cheaper quality.
Parks are to crowded.
Too many attractions closed for refurbishment.
Too many old favorites now gone.
Epcot construction massive and ongoing.
Too many rides, attractions, and transportation failures.
Changes upon changes to everything.
It's all about making more money verses guest experience.
Most saying that the "Magic" is gone.
Walt rolling over in his grave.

Not unexpected responses. Given all the changes. Given all the things that are now gone.  Osborne Lights at Christmas,  SpectroMagic Parade, iconic features in the parks that have been removed. So many things being cheapened and down sized.  If you are going there for the first time, or haven't been there but once or twice over the years... The changes won't seem that great.  If you go every year or are an annual pass holder changes are much more prominent. The experience... The feelings... Mostly disenchantment. The Magic has certainly lost it luster.

Oh... Almost forgot... The pros. If you have never been to Disney before, then all that has changed... All that is now gone.... You'll never miss it or know the difference. Attractions that are closed may not mean much. And construction, especially at Epcot... Well,  it's still a mess.  But rest assured that future guests will benefit from your loss and inconvenience now. And there is still some magic... Not what it once was,  but still magical.

The beautiful Epcot fountain that was a photo spot
is gone with all the new construction.

The Mickey Sorcerers Hat at Studios,
Once the Icon for the park,
It's gone too.

Our favorite Disney resort
Wilderness Lodge
Guests have to pay for resort parking.
Use to be free.

And of course, be prepared for over crowded lines
For rides, attractions, and food.

Speaking of food at Disney,
Counter service is worse than ever,
(few can be considered even fairly good)
Table service has been on the down turn for quality.
( most is prepared in advance, heated, and served when ordered)
Premium Table service is much better.
( food prepared to order)
But you pay a premium. $$$$

Wait times... 240 minutes... Thank goodness
Thought it would be hours.

Back in our best experiences,  fast passes were free,
( you could get several on any given day).
Fast pass lines were 5 minutes waits on average.
A long wait time for stand by lines was 30-40 minutes maximum.
( most were under 10 minutes or walk ons)

And the biggest changes over the years...
The more money you had to spend,
You could buy extra privileges...
Not only fast passes, but preferred seating for shows,
Preferred viewing areas for parades and fireworks.
You could also buy extra privileges VIP tours.

At one time, everyone was on a level playing field.
Now,  money talks and buys extra perks.
Lots of extra perks.
The result...
The rest of us wait in longer lines.
Sit further towards the back for shows.
Can get preferred viewing areas for paradise,
Even if we get there 60-90 minutes early.

Yep... The "Magic" has faded.
