Disney food

Disney food is a mixed bag of the good, the not so good, the price & the really pricey, and the serving size, and the combination of all these combined in countless ways.
Table service restaurants in the hotel resorts are your best bet for getting really good food... pricy? Yes! Sparse servings, sometimes.  ... but generally a good choice for better memorable meals. Sometimes the best quality is not only pricey, but you'll think, where's the rest of the meal (small serving portions but exceptional quality). There are even a good handful that are consistently exceptional. Of course some are pricey and merely average .
Table Service in the parks... Usually a good choice in the parks but the odds of a great meal (memorable) are somewhat less than going to the resort hotels. Most are good, some really good,  and some, too many, are merely average with higher prices. Of course atmosphere is a big part of the price while quality of food often deminishes. You have a tendency to have average food for the experience of the themed atmosphere.
Counter service. The greater majority of counter service food is barely average. Some are consistently good, most are consistently below average but it puts something in your stomach.
All in all, food is expensive at Disney, that's no secret. It's just a question of spending more money for better quality meals. I'd say a blend is recommended.  One exception table service per day (preferably in the resort hotels)... one average table service per day... and one on the run counter service meal per day. You're gonna spend the money, spend a little extra to enjoy meals so that you don't finish your vacation totally disappointed with Disney food. Which eating counter service meals in the parks all day is certainly a recipe for disappointment.
Couple all these choices into the facts that the some table service restaurants in the parks are inconsistent on quality, and mostly all the counter service food troughs, while average at best, are very inconsistent on quality switching from average to not so good sometimes on a daily basis. And since all counter service food is cooked in advance in anticipation of huge crowds looking for fast food,  so you will never hit it at any right time to have fresh hot food, its precooked, kept warm, and never hot off the grill... which explains the quality issue. Disney counter service does not do hit foods very good.
Food that isn't served as a hot meal is generally pretty good... Like desserts... gotta love all the ice cream and snack desserts.
So there you have it... Strictly from my perspective. To fully enjoy your vacation, I'd spend extra on meals to get better quality and truly enjoy all aspects if your vacation.
So am I fixated on food? Certainty... good food, especially exceptional food is part of enjoying life.
Here's some examples right down to the food festival trays which are pretty good... of course there are some bad choices here too.
Bone appetit... enjoy.

Definitely what was I thinking category...
