The Dreaded List...
Getting home from school or coming in from playing... the worst thing was to sell something for dinner that you hated. And it wasn't just that you hate it, but you had to sit at the dinner table refusing to eat what was made... Until it was time to go to bed.
What a bizarre thing to do to your kids. And you had to eat what was fixed or go to bed hungry. Their favorite saying was... "just try it". I tried it before... I don't like it. "Well just eat half of it". I still don't like it, why would I eat half of what I don't like? So there I sat at the kitchen table while they watched my favorite tv shows in the living room.
There was the dreaded stuffed green peppers, liver & onions, mushy leaf greens, brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, peas, hot beets, split pea soup... And the list goes on. And usually 2-3 dinners a week were... sitting 4 hours at the dinner table. Going to bed hungry because you ate what was made... There were no second choices.
