Generally... The bears in shenandoah national park will see you and run away. Some many stare at you for a few moments, then mosey away. Never run... They might Chase you... And they will catch you.
Back away slowly, giving them space. Never appoach or get near bear Cubs... Back way. Mom is nearby and you don't want to be considered a threat. And that of saying about tripping someone... use your own judgement... But it's still not advised.
