Health Care Crisis?
I don't think we've reached the panic stage... yet. As a result of the pandemic health care is stressed to find and keep doctors, nurse practitioners, and nurses. Even office workers seem to be a a premium. The shortages have resulted in an ever charging environment. We have had three primary care physicians in the last 2 years. Between those that retired, leaving unfilled vacancies, and those that are in transit from one area to another, the work force is highly unstable. We are loosing yet another primary care physician, being replaced by a temporary doctor. Local small town offices are shutting down necessitating travel to an hour away for larger medical facilities. Even just getting through on the phone to make appointments several weeks ahead has resulted in being in hold for 20-45 minutes. Because of this, walk in urgent care facilities are over packed with sick people.
If you are a doctor, nurse practitioner, or nurses, you are in a unique spot to capitalize on the high demand and low supply of healthcare professionals. Higher wages, sign on bonuses, other benefits are luring workers to more populated areas. Not too good for patients that have long waits to get appointments and increased travel to see doctors.
Another pandemic outbreak will crippled health care... scary.
