Yet Another Social Controversy
One might think... What's next? Well, in today's society... Anything and everything can produce a controversy.
You can simply agree or disagree with any issue. Advertisements and billboards can easily accepted or ignored.
Where the problem lies... What can easily be ignored is turned into something more aggressive aimed at individuals or businesses.
I'm sure PETA does a lot of good, and they can express their views like anyone else. But when they specifically locate their message by a business they oppose, with the aim to adversity affect that business... Are they going too far? Trying to morally or financially impose their views upon others... Not cool. Each to their own... just don't attempt to force your beliefs upon others.
Of course, social issues that are controversial have a way of exploding beyond a simply thought of agree or disagree. Geography no doubt plays a part in the controversy. Seek to attack or boycott beef in Texas and you're going to get push back. Boycott pork could have the same effect in certain areas. Attack bacon... Well, you'll loose support quickly among most.
In Maryland, attack blue crab lovers or businesses... that enjoy and serve steamed blue crabs, crab cakes, crab dip, and crab soup... And you are going to get blow back.
And it ignites more controversy and turmoil. I even experienced people protesting at a pork barbecue & rib festival wearing pig noses aggressively trying to block or affect people going into the festival. Handing out brochures trying to make people feel bad about attending the festival and eating pork. My response to them was met with disdain and ridicule. I told them that there was no greater joy than eating meat right off the bone... especially baby back pork ribs... and later my dinner choice is a juicy grilled steak. They clearly took offense at my comment which was in rebuttal to them expressing their views. Go figure. Others entering the festival wereca bit more blunt... "Get out of my face"! ... Like most people that try to influence others to their beliefs, they take offense when you don't agree with them.
