1960s Snacks

1960s snack time

We enjoyed all the favorite snacks as kids. Candy bars that were regular size at 5¢ each. Utz potato chips, Tastykake cakes & pies, and Jiffy Pop popcorn. Despite all of these goodies... My favorite got to snack was fresh right out of the garden.  My fathers tomato garden. Now.... I wasn't ready suppose to eat the tomatoes... his tomatoes... right out of his garden. But ya know... kids.

I'd sneak one of those mini Morton salt shakers out of the house to use on the fresh tomatoes.  There was always 8 or 10 of those little mini's left over from church functions... So one wouldn't be missed. And it would easily fit into my pocket.

Those fresh tomatoes were so good.
PROBLEM:  My dad would not only know exactly how many tomatoes were missing off the vines, but knew exactly were they were taken from. I could never figured that out. Nevertheless... I'd always get caught after the fact. Didn't get in too much trouble... but he always knew.

Just a fond memory of enjoying the forbidden fruit veggie.
