Science
Just something to think about.
For the past one hundred years, science has revealed insights into the natural cycles of the earth. Who listens? No body but others scientists. Generally the government and society as a whole really don't pay much attention to science, especially when continued small trends will add up to major impacts that are too come later.
Then when that major impact event occurs, everyone is in a total state of disbelief... How and why could this happen? How did we not know?
For the past twenty plus years major weather events have become not only more intense, but more frequent. Much to the surprise of everyone... except science. Go figure.
Of course, if you really listen to science, you'd could lose sleep over the possibility, nay the probability of extreme major earth events that are long over due. Like solar flares that wipe out our atmosphere, Yellowstone volcano that throws the entire earth into nuclear winter, planet killer asteroids, extreme floods, earthquakes, or pandemics that wiped out 90% of humanity. After all, science has proved that over 99% of all life on earth has been wiped out several times in earths history. Life on earth is very precarious in the whole scheme of earths history.
Then there's science fiction that warns about the possibility of alien beings coming to earth and decide to eliminate humans. Or our own creation of artificial intelligences that decide that they should be in control of illogical humans... or that humans need to be eliminated to save the planet.
But day to day life is much more simple. Don't worry about what you can't control. Climate chance is slow. And human nature is to be complacent about climate change. Until the shock of major weather events slaps you in the face. Especially when those events start to put up and overlap. Then disbelief ensues. And we're right back to shock and awe... Surprise... How did this happen?
Human existence on earth is in scientific terms is precarious. The good news... in geological time, all of human existence is but a second in earths geological time span. So we can feel relatively safe, at least from Total Extinction.
