Today is Veterans Day
Like so many federal holidays the true meaning has become less ceremonial in rememberance and more a diluted day to simply enjoy a day off from work to enjoy free time with food and shopping as the main attraction.
Talking to our three teenage high school Grand daughters as to the meanings of holidays, little or nothing is known. Birthdays of Presidents Washington and Lincoln, they don\"t know the celebrated significant of their contributions to the country. Memorial Day, July 4 th, Labor Day, and Veterans Day only yielded one response... "independence day" but not from who. When asked about December 7th nothing is known, not who fought or why. The Civil War is even less known. Social events and prominent people that shaped America are also largely unknown. And that brings us to Veterans Day... No idea what so ever.
So we live in a society of young adults and soon to be adults, that remembers nothing, celebrates nothing from history, and in basic terms is primarily only concerned with themselves, and how life is unfair, and seemingly almost everything is offensive.
Religious holidays don\"t fair any better. They are celebrated as food and shopping events... and barely as family event.

So...Veterans Day... a day of remembrance.
at least for us older folks.
