Lesson learned?

Lesson learned from Houston?  Hurricane Irma heads for Florida.  In Houston the people had 5 days of warnings to prepare and get out to safety. They were warned of 24+ inches of rain and massive flooding... yet most people planned to ride it out. They were told that in their hour of crisis that there would not be emergency services, yet they stayed. One estimate projected 500,000 cars destroyed in the flooding. Can not understand why they did not drive away to safety. Hopefully people in Florida are much smarter. Hopefully everyone remains safe. We hear that highways are already very busy with evacuation. Family and friends are certainly in our thoughs.
