Controversy

Controversy still exists about anything confederate. Why? Not because of what happened 155 years ago...BUT SOLELY BECAUSE OF TODAY'S PREJUDICE AND HATRED. If you want to be offended by anything, be offended by what's happening today. Those offended by the issue of slavery choose to pick one point in history to focus their frustrations, hatred , and prejudices upon... claiming that today's issues, and their lot in life, is a direct result of the civil war...and want to condemn and dishonor those that fought in the war. History, as told by the northern government,  would tell you that the sole reason for the war was slavery, and from a government perspective,  both Northern and Southern Governments had many issues beyond that of slavery. Given that the underlying cause which included the slavery issue, slavery was the focus according to history. Well, it all depends on what you read,  and who's interpretation and perspective you choose to take as truth. Truth as a perspective often obscures the facts. But one fact that is grossly overlooked and discounted is that the vast majority that fought for both sides were NOT fighting and risking their lives to either free the slaves, nor keep them enslaved. Yet those offended today would condemn the memory of all that fought. So how do today's malcontents justify their protests? Simply put, they are offended, their feelings need to be justified, they need to blame something for today's issues, and their lot in life today... which is a product of today's prejudice and hatred. So what's next? If the confederate flag and monuments are offensive, why not find our national monuments and currency offensive. After all, they honor our countries founding fathers and leaders which owned slaves. Washington owned slaves all his life. But then again, if you need something, anything,  to justify your protest and your feelings, anything will do, no matter how factually unjustified. So the sun sets on another day when the vast majority of society, and the media, gives credence the minority that seeks to blame today's problems anywhere but where the responsibility lies. It lies with them, today.
