History... the past & the present

Isn't history a great thing. I've always enjoyed history,  especially US history. But what do we really know about history. Well, the only thing that you know 100% for sure is what you personally witness, and even that to a small degree is perhaps not all inclusively accurate. Personal interpretation or expectations, and even perhaps pre conceived notions will slightly alter your perception of the facts and truths. Given ten people observing the same event, you will get 10 slightly different interpretations.  Some will the emphasize certain facts and emit others. Couple this with facts that are indeed true, but taken out of context, and the story changes. Throw in political, financial, or personal agendas, and the reporting of history becomes more and more distorted. The powers to be, government and the powerfully rich and influential, will have history written to either omit facts, distort facts, or entirely write their own version of history... what they want you to know, influencing how you think. So what can you really believe as the whole truth and nothing but the truth? Not much. Before the 1900s, people only knew what they read about history, what had been handed down by word if mouth, and we all know how accurate that can be. As we move forward to modern times reporting of events, and interpretation of history has become even more manipulated to support whatever agenda they are trying to impose. Watch 5 different news reporting agencies and you'll get five different representations of the same event. This only serves one ultimate purpose of creating social division and unrest. Who is responsible for intensifying a social climate of unrest, hatred, and prejudice? The media, that's who. Shirking any moral responsibility to ease tensions, they add fuel to the fire by bias reporting and giving a stage to extremists to incite even more social division. Besides, the more controversy, the better the news , right. So what can you truly believe as the absolute truth and facts...nothing. Nothing at all. There's always a hidden agenda and some times a conspiracy to control how you think. Honesty and integrity from anything to do with government and the those influentially powerful, is just an idealistic illustration, it doesn't exist. Just something to consider in today's social climate.
