Baltimore Ravens Controversy over the consideration to sign Colin Kaepernick.
What a mess of pros and cons and most are based on emotional responses. But what's wrong with emotional responses based on how you feel. If someone does something in a manner that to you is so morally wrong not only do you have right to not like them, but also have the right to have and express your feelings about them. Those defending Colins behavior site constitutional rights to freedom of speech... but wait... no one condemned him for his right to express himself... but have issues with where he did it, on a national stage at his place of employment, during a salute to the flag, not to mention wearing socks that indicated that police are pigs. If the average person expressed those feelings to that degree at their place of employment, to the companies customers, reflecting on the employer, they would not have a job very long. His negative sentiments against the flag and police are not only distasteful, but are disgraceful. Who says? Everyone that would support his right to free speech, but in an appropriate place and manner. Do the Ravens fans want him? From the comments 90% don't want him on the team and are very strong about it. Could he help the team despite his bad baggage? At his best he took his team to a super bowl... the follow years his performance was dismal. In the music world he would be called a one hit wonder. Could he be good? Possibility. Will he cause a rift between the team and the fans... Absolutely. So what teams want him? So far only the Ravens who seem to be possibly desperate. Personally, I know its a business, but I could never be that desperate even facing a loosing season. Consider the choices... a possible winning season if they sign Colin while loosing fan respect and loss of moral integrity... or possible loosing season (without Colin) but keeping respect while maintaining integrity. I choose the later. Colin is not saying anything ( perhaps a lesson learned to keep your mouth shut ), but his girlfriend seems to have controversial opinions (see article). All in all... I hope the Ravens don't sign him, based on my principles which seem to be shared by the vast majority of Ravens fans. I also have to commend another team owner who said "Any player on his team that doesn't stand for the flag is off the team". Again it's all about the degree he expressed his beliefs and where and how he expressed them that are so morally objectionable. He is welcome to have his beliefs some place else besides Baltimore.
UPDATE: DOESN'T APPEAR THAT HE WILL BE A RAVEN...
