Time to think... About Time itself.
Time is many things... endless perceptions.
Mankind lives by is controlled by time. The minutes and hours in a day with which to achieve personal endeavors. Work, play, sleep, any activity, controlled and regimented by schedules. Funny how this changes after retirement... Not only do you lose track of the hour, but frequently even the days. Time seems intangible, outside a fixed regimented reality... Sometimes seems to move slowly, sometimes fast. Memories from last month many feel so long ago, while memories from last year feel closer. Memories from 10 years ago feel so very long ago, while memories from 30 years ago feel much closer in time.
What controls time? First and foremost, nature's clock, sunrise, sunset, the 24 hours in a day. The seasons, vital to calibrate weather and crop growing seasons. Beyond this, years is relative to age and life expectancy controlled by the nature of life spans. Humans ... 70-80 years. Dogs 10-12. Sea turtles 130-150 years. This controls our perception of time. Not much to think about until you retire and approach 70 when reality confronts you and the human life expectancy... You are much closer to the end than the beginning.
Mega lifespands and time... The Earth is hundreds of billions of years old, so relative time moves very slow in terms of human perception. Humans, with respect to known existence perhaps spanning 100,000 years is not even a micro second in Earths history. Beyond recorded history and ancient evidence, who knows what life existed that was completely erased, lost to time itself, never to be known. How many humans or beings existed in the past beyond our limited concept of time? Did life really start here on earth, or was it helped by influences from outside the planet? Eons ago when the Earth was too hot for most life, and Mars was in the sweet spot for climate and conditions for life as we know it ... did life once exist there? Perhaps even our mega ancient precursors to humans that migrated to earth, or were placed here by beings more advanced... so that life could continue here? What we know is but a drop of water in an ocean. Evident by the extremely limited knowledge of human history is rewritten everyday by science.
But that's all mostly irrelevant to our day to day life in our perception of the here and now. All of nature, the Earth and the Universe continues in cycles over eons... with our primary concern over the hour to hour, day to day, month to month, season to season, year to year perception of our time.
Most of this is of little concern to most, especially myself. While many go about their time regimented busy lives as I once did... It's nice to live by natures clock of daylight and night time, sunrise & sunset, with little care for the hour or even what day it is. One reward for being closer to the end that the beginning.
So why this post? Random thoughts at 3am in the middle of the night. Not a care in the world. Funny how you wake up just thinking of things outside the normal daily activities. Not quite an epiphany... But not normal thoughts during the day.
