Childhood Dreams

Recently I was asked...
If you had followed your childhood dreams...
What occupation would you have had?

Well... Ya know,  I was always interested in going places and finding things. Digging in the dirty,  exploring mountains, jungles, and far away places to discover ancient artifacts... uncovering history.  Avoiding dangers like snakes, scorpions, bears, and deranged mooses... not to mention hostile natives. Also avoiding water more than waist high... I can't swim. It's not that I don't know how... I have an 10 times negative buoyancy, and sink faster than a rock.

Going new places, having new adventures, and making historic discoveries. Solving histories mysteries. I liked the idea of this long before Indiana Jones came along. Archeology. Not much glamor or fame unless you find another King Tut Tomb... but nevertheless it seemed like a very rewarding thing to do with your life. And then, after years of searching and finding things, settle down in a museum and enjoy the rest of your life surrounded by history... teaching others the value of history.

I've always been more intrigued by the accomplishments of ancient people and cultures that seemed well beyond what they should have been capable of. So many unsolved mysteries. So many things left with no explanation as to how they came into being... how they were possibly built. So many things that seemed impossible, but there they are... Accomplished in the hardest way possible, in ways that we could not even do today. And the ancient knowledge that they possessed, thousands of years before it could be technologically proven as factual. Do we really think that advanced ancient knowledge simply came into being, only to be lost for thousands of years before being rediscovered?

Questionable...
The Egyptians built multiple pyramid failures..
Then built 3 perfect pyramids...
The lost the knowledge and built more failures.

Built for the pharaohs yet no tombs
were ever inside the pyramids.

God, Gods, or Alien visitation are something that can not be proven... but logic has no other explanation. 300 ton Granite stones being moved across rivers and valleys to their final resting places.

Lots of questions. And science only offers explanations of how brute force and the labors of thousands were able to accomplish such impossible feats, not only the physical,  but also with respect to the technological knowledge needed. Clearly the answers lie beyond science.

Anyway...
Never followed that dream,  but that's okay,  everything worked out just fine.  Always had a happy life. What more could you ask for.
