Backpacks... 1960
Backpacks, like clothes and other cool stuff,
was bought at war surplus stores.
Like Sunnys Surplus in Essex Maryland.
Unlike today... we walked to school.
Not a great distance but still walked 1 1/2 miles every day.
Hot, cold, rain, shine, and snow.

Very basic canvas war surplus.
(ours didn't have pockets on the sides)
No padded straps either.
Cost back then ... 75¢
and they were tough as nails,
