Historically structures for shelter have been made from all kinds of materials. Mud bricks, wood, crude stone structures, and even animal skins, all served the purpose. Natural structures as caves were ready made as shelters and usual throughout the history of mankind.
Structures made of stone, constructed with precision were made to last and stand the test of time. Ancient structures and modern day castles made if stone... And then there were the pyramids. Pyramids that popped up in every ancient culture... built with knowledge, engineering and mathematical percussion beyond the level of humans at that time. And as the ancient stories tell... with the devine help from the Star Gods that came down from the heavens. Well, that explains where the knowledge originated.
