And it will happen again... And there is nothing anyone can do about it. Humans and all current life has existed in a sweet spot between mega forces that cause mass extinctions.
Mega events just waiting to happen. Volcanic eruptions and their initial destruction followed by ash blocking out the sunlight. Asteroid impacts... planet killers... again initial destruction followed by dark clouds blocking out sunlight. Then there's asteroids big enough to destroy the earth. Violent earthquakes. Mega tsunamis. Ice ages. Mega droughts. Viruses unchecked to wipe out huge portions of humanity. Solar flares ripping away earths atmosphere. The suns radiation fries everything. Black holes to engulf the entire planet. And if all the polar ice/snow caps completely melted 80% of the land masses would be covered by water. Then there's mankinds own short sightedness... nuclear war followed by nuclear winter. And sometime in the future... artificial intelligence someday controlling humans or necessitating their elimination. And if you are so inclined to believe, god or the various gods ... Beings not of this earth (aliens if you will)... Someday return as all ancient cultures believe... and once again find that the great plantary experiment... The latest being humans... has been a complete failure as a whole... and decide to once again start over again via another mass extinction.
It all sounds very precarious. But not to worry... Be happy... There's absolutely nothing you can do anyway.
