Local Government

Local Government... a local small town council.

When there for a local high school student awards ceremony.  But first they conducted some council business before the awards. Almost everyone in attendance was there not for council business,  but the high school awards. The awards should have been the first order of business... But that's just my way of thinking.

They took the first 20 minutes talking about the motion to have a second reading of the of the issue at hand, verses only one reading.
Policies and guidelines governing county schhols. This was after they said that they had already had two committee meets to discuss the issue. So after the discussion... blah, blah, blah...  they finally agreed to have a second reading (review) of the issue. They also talked about the need, or no need for the council attorneys to review the legal properness of the issue when the states legal services that already approved to issues at hand. It was also disclosed the the council could not alter, change, or modify, the issue that was approved and sent down from state government.

So basically all the policies and guidelines were set forth by the state,  the council was merely a rubber stamp to have the school handbook printed. So WHY are even talking about this issue?
20 minutes to talk about if they were going to talk about this not one more time,  but two more times. Government at work. Makes you wonder.

Finally they got on to the awards presentations. They took 12 minutes.
Upon completion of the awards... everyone got up before the council could start the next issue, and walked out. Seemingly to the shock of the council members. Aparently everyone's departure disrupted their formal protocols for proper order. Only two people remained for the rest of the council business.

Really makes you wonder. Still shaking my head.
