Guns

Guns in the social environment.

Growing up in the 50s and 60s there was tons of westerns on television and in the movies. And we all played cowboys & Indians, or cowboys good verses bad, and we all had all kinds of toy cowboy guns. Rifles, 6 shooters, and rubber knives. Funny... we didn't grow up wanting to kill real people with real guns. Go figure.

Later in the 60s & 70s everything was combat military war. TV shows and movies. Mostly about WWII. Fighting all around the world... hense world war... fighting the Germans and the Japanese.  Play time now focused on playing army. Toy rifles, machine guns, pistols, grenades, and bayonets. Some serious play with uniforms and helmets from the military surplus store. Play fighting and shooting, and blowing things up... all make believe. But serious make believe. Sometimes, looking back at the culture of war, and fighting and shooting... It's like we were being mentally conditioned to aspire to join the military... to go to war. Funny... We didn't really grow up wanting to kill real people with real guns,  except for maybe in the military.  We didn't go around shooting people in schools, churches, or shopping malls. Go figure.

The misconception... or Wrong impression if you will...
THOSE ADVOCATING GUN CONTROL MAKE IT SOUND LIKE ONCE
NEW GUN LAWS ARE INACTED MOST IF NOT ALL CRIMINAL ACTS
WITH GUNS WILL BE PREVENTED. GUN CONTROL IS A STEP IN THE
RIGHT DIRECTION... IT IS NOT THE TOTAL SOLUTION.
IT ONLY SOLVE A SMALL FRACTION IF THE PROBLEM.
DON'T MAKE IT OUT TO BE A TOTAL FIX.

Fast forward to society today. There's plenty of shoot'em up movies and shows with tons of graphic violence. And unfortunately in adult life, easy access to all kinds of guns. We h gave always been a nation of guns. For hunting and survival, fighting for Independence, fighting western wars, civil war, world wars, and a multitude of others wars. I'd have to say that fighting and killing is installed in American culture. Given the culture and the access to guns,  it certainly could be exoectedvti cause problems. So, is it guns or culture to blame or both?

Both. Coupled with the lack of society to observe, report, and the authorities to actively investigate people with mental issues that would pose a threat... It's all a recipe for disaster. And that's were we are at today.  Personal freedoms to be free of investigations even if those that threaten others enjoy that freedom until they actual kill others.

Gun control certainly needs to be addressed. Access needs to be more restrictive. But in reality, no matter how much access to guns may be controlled, criminal will still get guns. Just like drug addicts get drugs.
Gun controls may solve 10% of the problem. And thats something.... That's a plus. Social attitude needs to change. But things have gone too far... Gotten out of control. There's People that report others as a threat, or don't care to... Authorities that won't or can't do anything (until people get killed)...  the justice system that doesn't impose more punishment... The bleeding hearts that want to give criminals a break.... And communities that protect the criminals ( they amount done nothin', I ain't seen nothin'), and condemn all police, until they get shot, then they yell they aren't being protected.

It's taken a long time getting to this point,  and if things can be fixed it will take even longer.  The outlook: things will not change.  Sad.

Individually what can you do?  Protect yourself and family with precautions... And if necessary... deadly force.
