Selling Stuff You Need

Selling you stuff since the beginning of time. Once the business of business and turning a buck hit the conscientiousness of those that could think of no better way to get your money and make it theirs… well… someone had to give salesman a bad name. People have always bartered, traded, and sold goods to others that needed them in exchange for something… usually money. Money is where it all started. Shouting on the street in the marketplace, than the printed word… newspapers, than radio, than Tv, and now the internet. Yep, there has always been a way to sell anything and everything. Most offer products that are needed by most people. Some offer you stuff that promises to perform nothing short of miracles. The methods were cold and crude in the beginning selling stuff with outrageous claims that not only caught your attention, but conveyed a need on your part to buy this marvelous product. Most played to your vanity and gullibility. The more educated you became, the more sophisticated their ploys became to bring you an unreasonable belief that this perhaps skeptical product could actually perform miracles as advertized. Not withstanding your skepticism,  there’s creditable research, development, and technical claims that entice you to believe in miracles in that there bottle. Yep, your smart, and the smart person knows just how much this miracle can not help you, but being vein and gullible, well… you know, this might just work… and it’s only $9.95 plus S/H. This was the magic price… than as time marched on, miracles were worth more… $19.95 plus S/H… than only 2-3 easy payment of $19.95. Such a small price to pay for a miracle. And most come with a money back guarantee that the 95% of the dissatisfied customers will never return due to the effort involved… but it was worth a try. No doubt somewhere off into the future, people will look at the current ads that we see now, and see then as we see the  ads from 50 years ago and wonder… how could people be so gullible, vein, and stupid? Time march on… but here’s a few ads that no doubt seemed great in their day.

A major concern in the 1950’s

(appeals to your worst fears)

Campbell's Soup, matches, and water.

(comforts your fears)

Your gonna die, but not hungry, thirsty, or in the dark.

(at least not for a couple of days)

1951 kit

Modern Electronics… Radiation Detector & radios

now this could be handy…

so you can see & they can confirm…

you are gonna die!

But once fears are quieted, vanity reigns supreme…

I gotta get one of these…

Beauty & Health Benefits too!

Speaking of need vs vanity…

One useful product (maybe)…

and one that plays to your vanity.

and you can buy it by the dozen!

Not sure what to make of this…

Guns from Sears…

maybe it to shoot the worthless salesman

that sold you miracles in that bottle for only $2.99

Of course, in the space age, and the vacuum of space,

new miracle products are being developed.

and it’s the only product of its kind…

developed in a vacuum.

( just like space)

OMG… It must be a Miracle!

So there’s always been twist or spin on selling…

especially miracle products that can deliver… Miracles!

You get smarted, they become more cleaver.

Playing on fear, desires, and vanity,

and connecting it to the latest technology…

they know you are gullible, it’s your weakness…

instant success for them.

Today, tv ads, entertain, inspire, and create need…

but I can not fully understand why they depict a stupid person doing something so incredibly dumb and than buying their product… so why would I want to do that… if that’s what the stupid persons doing?

Just something to think about!

yep… this is what I do in the morning while Shelly is till sleeping and i have to be quiet!
