The final resting place of those that have gone before us. A remembrance, a marker, a bit of history, if only for a name, dates they lived, and a short message. A place the those that knew them could come to remember and play homage to loved ones. The memorials that will almost stand the test of time. But within two generations, they will be forgotten... no one to visit their grave, see their monuments... no one to remember who they were. Forgotten, no one to visit, no one that remembers them . Only strangers that visit cemeteries to wonder who they were. Strangers to see the monuments, read unknown names, and feel in some detail a connection with the historical past and those that live long ago. Perhaps a visitor that will have a moment of silence, a respectful reverence to those long gone, as well as any one that knew them.
Reverence for those that served in the military... and the normal folks that no one remembers. From simple grave stones to beautiful monuments, each had a story to tell, if only for the simplest of one sentence parting comments. The debt that all men pay... Death. Everyone is eventually forgotten. Markers and monuments provide one eternal small piece to be remembered by, if only for a passer by. Family markers, when found, bring up more questions that will never be answered.
