The Sweet Spot

The Sweet Spot of Life.

It all began after I finished working 30 years for one company... and retired, took the 30 & out pension... at age 49... in 2003.

Full time Rving was the plan of almost 20 years, ever since I got a Class C motorhome in 1983.

So... The sweet spot.

Retirement at 49 years old... and the freedom to go anywhere, do anything, and enjoy life at our pace, stay as long as we liked, where ever we wanted to be.

We got a 5th wheel RV and a great truck to pull it.

Full time rving provided that freedom to travel and stay at places as look as we wanted. Like an ultimate vacation life, at bargain prices. Rv resorts and campground prices were reasonable and if you stayed someplace you liked or a month, the cost was just over two weeks price, but you got a whole month and thoroughly enjoy the entire area. And since we had two campground memberships the costs were even more reduced. The rule, 2 weeks stay,  out for a week, and then another 2 weeks stay.

Given the purchase price and yearly dues, we could stay places for around $50/week. At Orlando,  having the two memberships there... we alternated every two weeks between the two campgrounds.  The net cost per week was $32 per week. Those days are long gone and prices and restrictions have greatly increased. So we were in the sweet spot for expenses.

Disney was a favorite destination.

When we first arrived at Disney in 2004, we got unlimited annual passes to the parks which included parking for $325. So we enjoyed Disney too many times to account for an estimated  60-90 days a year... for less than $5 per day. The following year we became seasonal cast members. Worked 2 - 5 hour shifts /week, and got unlimited free park access, discounts and perks. This too has changed, and is no more.  Disney basically let go all seasonal cast members in favor of free college program employees,  and A1 visa workers from foreign countries. So ... we were indeed in the sweet spot of prices at Disney.

Full time Rving for 20 years in our home on wheels.
The sweet spot. Traveled from mountains to the beach... Tourist destinations to relaxing nature destinations.
Amusement parks to mountain lakes. Lots of different people & cultures, different foods, different adventures.
Our last travels... the pristine beaches of Navarre Beach to Pensacola Beach... Santa Rosa Island National Seashore.

Our current sweet spot...
The farmlands of central Virginia and an easy ride to the mountains... Skyline Drive & Shenandoah National Park.
