Fruit in plastic

Fruit pre-packaged in plastic bags.

The Good and the Not So Good.

Pre-packaged is good for the seller.
Reduces loss... as with grapes. What Use to be that "shatter", the loose grapes that would fall off the bunch, would have to be sold at reduced prices or thrown away. Either way a loss, eating away at profits, ultimately causing higher prices. Now that it's sold in a bag, "shatter" is now sold with the good grapes.

Larger quanities.
The bag is usually full, and contains more product than the buyer wants to purchase. Increased sales!

So to the buyer...
On a positive note, cross contamination is greatly reduced since everything is in plastic.

The negative...
Larger quanity, perhaps more than you want.
You can not effectively see, feel, or smell each piece of fruit... like the plums grouped together in the bag. Some many feel firm, others, but so much. Now you have to take the good with the bad. I'd much rather hand pick each fruit individually, check for firmness, ripeness, and fresh sweet smell. So what if someone else previously touched the fruit... I wash everything anyway.

Caution...
Check the bottom of bag for juice leakage... over ripe, going or gone bad. Check for repackaging... Especially grapes. When the seller does "cull" the bags, removing the bad fruit, they will re-bag the good from several other bags. Not the best option for the buyer.

Do.. YES...
she should be allowed to do this...

And if you have an issue with this...
It's rather your problem.
So... What else offends you?
