What a difference...

What a difference... 70 years makes.

It's amazing to see how much life has changed since I was a kid. It's easy for me to appreciate those changes. Advances in technology has leaped forward so many times that it's hard to imagine just how much things have changed.

In reality, today's generations will never know the life wPubluc e had growing up. They will never appreciate what they have, not knowing what once was... Taking everything for granted. Kinda sad.

Here's some glimpses into the past.
Memory lane for older folks.
Abstract history for those younger.

Good Humor ice cream trucks ranged the neighborhoods selling frozen treats.
Public pay phones were everywhere. .. 10¢ a call,  locally only.
Pepsi was in returnable glass bottles... 10¢.
Gasoline was 25¢ a gallon... fill the 20 gallon tank for $5.00
New cars were $1899... full size Chevy with V-8 engine.
Milk came in returnable glass bottles.
The house telephone couldn't be moved, therefore the phone / chair.
McDonald's brought "fast food" to the neighborhood. 15¢ burgers.
Coca-Cola came in glass bottles. 6 1/2 ounce... 6¢... 2¢ deposit
Milkman made home deliveries in insulated metal boxes.
Pickles were in open barrels ... 5¢
Kentucky Fried Chicken if you have family of four for $3.94
Drive-in restaurants were social gatherings,  especially for the younger crowd.
Bonanza dine in restaurants,  complete steak dinner was $1.79

Drive-in restaurants... ordered and delivered right to your car, pretty girls on roller skates.
Wall phones usually in the kitchen/dining area. Only phone in the house.
Burger Chef... fast food when it actually tasted good.
Family radios where the family gathered to listen to music and shows.
The trusty water fountain on the outside playground.
Tube Tester in a local store for self repair of early televisions.
Coke machine, 6 cents... Cigarette machines, 35 cents.
Monkey bars on the playground... For climbing around.
The local  "Five & Dine" store... 5¢ - 10¢. That's what most items cost.
The family back yard swing... hours of relaxing fun.
The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea company... The A&P grocery store.
The school yard sliding board. Hours of fun.
The Record Store... LP & 45 Records by the thousands.

Steak & Shake Drive -In... burgers, fries, milkshakes
Hide n Seek neighborhood fun for the kids.
My moms station wagon.  3 adults + 10 kids on the go.
My first car... The Ford Pin to... not very good.
Oil embargos created gas shortages... no gas  and gas rationing.
School classroom... pretty simple.
Playing marbles... a past time for kids & adults
Snow & blizzards... still walked to school... 1-1/2 miles a day.
Our water park on hot days... garden sprinklers.
The  Hula-Hoop... Hours of fun.
And the trusty telephone book, source of information & phone numbers.

Just some of the ways that things were.
Everything has changed.
Mostly for the better.
Technology certainly.
Quality of fast food... Much better back then.
