Age perception

Age and perception.

Growing up, you always want to be older.
In your 20s and 30s you're happy with your age, making your own decisions.
In your 40s the concept of middle aged comes to mind... sometimes,  but is quickly brushed aside.
In your 50s it's less of a big deal, acceptance... Planning a retirement future.
In your 60s, retired and enjoy a carefree life.

But in your late 60s you think of lots of other things:
Getting old and aware of your own mortality fades a bit, after all,  you've made it this far.

Then you wonder about kids you grew up with... are they still alive?
You stop thinking about your mortality, and think about family and friends that may pass before you, and what life would be like without them... truly sad. What would it be like in your 70s, as more of those friends pass away. Then in your 80s when many of those you grew up are gone.  Make it to your 90s, and pretty much everyone and everything that you had in your life is gone. What kind of life will that be. Wonderful changes to technology and society... But how much has simply passed you by.  How irrelevant you have become to society and pretty much anyone.  You may not be alone... But... You will feel totally alone.  So... How long do you want to live?  80? 85? 90? ... 100? I guess it depends on how much you've lost in life,  the loved ones that have gone on before you. And of course, your health. Suffering with physical issues, too severe to loose the will to live on. Guess we all cross the bridge when the time comes.
Depressed? Nope!  Just thinking out loud.
