As far as I'm concerned...
Storm of the Century.
Culpeper, Virginia
Dateline: January 3rd, 2022. The Perfect Storm.
It was billed as a typical first snow of winter with some accumulation 1 to 3 inches maximum. What we got was 9-10 inches. What made it so bad, was the frozen sleet that occured intermittently with the snow. It stuck to everything, piling up layer after layer. Trees and power lines
coming down disrupting electrical service and blocking roads. 70% of customers out in the cold. Monday, our power was on and off from 8-10am (more off then on). At 10 am the power went off for good. With temperatures 15° below freezing everything was becoming part of the frozen wonderland. Wonderland... because you wondered when the power would be restored. Temperatures dropped overnight and by morning it was 50° inside the house. No electric, no water, no communication for news, and the local cell tower was down... so we were completely cut off. Tuesday morning nothing had changed except that it got colder. The expected time to get electrical power restored was by the end of the week. We could not stay in the house. Road trip to Maryland to stay with family. Now safe and warm.
This was like nothing I'd ever seen before. Even the blizzard of 78-79 didn't seem this bad. No doubt due to the electric being out for so long, with subfreezing temperatures. It looks like a movie of some frozen world far far away. Hoping no damage is done by frozen water pipes.
