Youthful memories. For a mere 5 cents you could have a cold frosty treat on a mid summers day. Sometimes even twice... and usually before dinner... without your mom knowing, of course. And there was always a way to get, earn, or even find a nickel. The was always something you could do in the neighborhood to earn a nickel that wouldn't take too long. Or , in the age of returnable soda bottles, you could always collect & find empty bottles almost everywhere... take'm to the store and get 2 cents for every bottle returned for deposit. And back then, there must have been a problem with holes in pants pockets... you could always find pennies and nickels every where, just lying on the ground. And if you were really lucky... dimes or quarters. Then there was always the vending machines where people would leave change or returned coins. Pay phones were another great source of forgotten coins. Ahhh...Cold hard cash for drinks, candy, or bubble gum... or ice cold root beer in a frosty mug. ... yum! Ice cream was an extra nickel... no problem.
