So what's real?

Visiting historic places has always held a special attraction to me. Some with a passing interest, some with a deeper historical significance,  and on rare occasions some with a bit more of an emotional connection. Call it what you will... kinda like a feeling of deja vu. At times a bit erie. On one such visit to a civil war battlefield there was a moment of mental & perhaps physical disorientation for lack of a better word. Kinda like a fuzzy feeling of the current reality being introduced upon by something not of the moment. Not of the moment as a partial mental & physical interaction with something from the past... Something more than simply a vivid imagination running amuck. For a few passing moments you faintly hear voices... but no one can be seen. You slightly feel the ground shake and your chest pound as if from a sonic boom,  that didn't happen. And you can just get a faint smell of gunpowder & smoke... when nothing is around. Then, you breathe & blink and its all gone, as if a dream. So how do you explain it. Well, you can't without seeming crazy. But it sure seemed real in a hazy sort of way.  And no, I wasn't dreaming or semi asleep while standing up. And my imagination isn't that good to hear, feel, and smell things that aren't there. So I guess some things just are what they are... Unexplained at best.  A partial fragment memory of something that was once a reality in the past long ago. Take from this what you will... I've talked to others that have similar experiences. Read of others that had similar experiences. So there's something there... real or imagined... Still unexplained.
