Hells Kitchen...
Hells Kitchen... no, not the Gordon Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen... but the kitchen in the house that I grew up in. My mom, like most moms was not exactly a chef.
And it got worse in the early 1960s when the "tv dinner" became the thing of the day. Quick and easy from the freezer to the oven... to the table. It even came in its over cooking / serving tray. Add plastic forks, knives, & spoons... And paper cups and there was no clean up, with no dishes to wash. Quick n easy!
THE UPSIDE: Quick & easy, cheap ( 3/ $1 ), and my dad always seemed to have something he could use the aluminum tray for.
THE DOWNSIDE: Not exactly home cooking, and not exactly good either. On a scale of 1-10... well, some were a solid 4... The rest were 2. Not the best memory from childhood.
But... It was what it was. Food... of sorts.
