Seeing some of the Devastation from Hurricane Ian, it is certainly living up to the catastrophic warnings that were being issued. Storm surges were being reported up the 18-ft high along the coastal communities. Heavy rain expected to exceed 15" to possibly top 24". High winds sustained at 140 mph with wind gusts exceeding 165 mph creating historic devastation and massive power outages. Early on, just in coastal cities 800,000 homes without power. Due to flooding and tidal surges drinking water even if still functioning will be contaminated and undrinkable. Emergency response centers receiving hundreds of calls for help from people that were told to evacuate as early as last Saturday... despite the warnings and being told that emergency services would not be available, they ellected to stay. No emergency services are available. It's hard to believe that anyone would not evacuate given the warnings. I feel bad for those that didn't have the resources to evacuate... but it's hard to feel sorry those that could leave and despite advance warnings, made the bad decision to stay, fully knowing the possible catastrophic devastation... knowing that even if they survive, they will have to leave any way because there will be no services of any kind.
It's still early on, and Ian has a long way to go, but the outcome certain seems bleak. They are certainly in our thoughts and hopes for the best.
Ian... living up to worst case scenarios. Affecting millions for probably years to come.
No doubt we'll see worse photos tomorrow.
