Masks

Masks... Looks like we are back to masks. But it's different this time. Before we wore masks to keep each other safe. Since the masks were not N95, the purpose of our less than optimal mask were not to keep from getting covid, but to prevent us from spreading it to others. In other words, we all wore masks to keep others safe. And I had no problem with that, although many did, a refused to wear a mask. Now that many are vaccinated, and the virus is spreading fast among those not vaccinated, the government wants everyone to wear masks again to reduce the spread. 98% of those newly infected are the unvaccinated, and the less than 2% that are vaccinated have no or mild symptoms.  So basically, they want the vaccinated to wear a mask to protect those that made a choice not to get vaccinated. And this I have a problem with. They say we could be carriers of the virus and give it to the unvaccinated. The cold hard fact is that if they, the unvaccinated, made a personal choice not to get the vaccine... then WHY should I be required to wear a mask to protect them? They knew the risks and made a choice. Now they, the unvaccinated clog the hospitals so that real medical emergencies can not get proper care because there's no room in the hospitals. They made a choice, despite the risks... I believe we the vaccinated should honor their beliefs, and not wear masks to protect them from themselves. But that's just a logical decision. I'll wear the mask in respect for the laws, but not to protect healthy people that chose not to get vaccinated. I respect their choices but also place the consequences squarely upon them. Some might say what about children at home? Well, if I unknowingly do become a possible carrier, I wouldn't be wearing a mask at home anyway. So wearing a mask in public really doesn't matter. Perhaps I'm still on the fence... maybe wear the mask... maybe not.
