Higher and higher to the top of the mountain. Skyline Drive travels 105 miles skirting the crest of the mountains. Numerous overlooks (pull off parking) provide both eastward and westward views of the valley and nearby mountains. Plus there's countless views while traveling along the ever winding road. Keep you eyes peeled for deer, bears, wild turkeys, hawks. Enjoy the 30 plus trails or a segment of the Appalachian Trail for some hiking treks into wilderness or down to some the the waterfalls. One of the shortest hikes is to Dark Hallow falls... 1.3 miles down hill... and at least 3.9 miles back up the same trail, or so it seems. In any event, driving only, or stopping to do a short walk about, or some light or heavy hiking, getting out with nature makes for a great day adventure.
