Helpful?

So science has discovered another planet that could support human life.
Doesn't seem that way to me, but, lets say its exactly like earth.
Its only 1,207 light years away from earth. How is this remotely helpful?
At light speed it would take one thousand two hundred years to get there. Over 3,000 generations.
In human years with current technology it would take over 21 million years to get there. 18,000 times 1,207 equals 21 million.
HOW IS THIS INFORMATION
USEFUL IN ANY WAY?

And what did it cost to obtain this useless information?

Maybe they should solve todsys problems,  here on our earth,
Instead of useless research.
