Electric vehicles while individually are considered environment friendly... their total impact is exactly the opposite. The impact from mining the rare materials need to manufacturer the batteries, general manufacture of the cars themselves, replacement and disposal of worn out batteries, and the production of more electricity to charge those cars results in anything but environmentally friendly. Add to this, mining more coal, transporting more coal, burning more coal creating pollution to generate more electric for charging those EV's. And if the popularity of EV's spreads, the drain on power needs increases putting pressure in an already straining power grid. And again, add to this the environmental impact and expense to build charging stations to make travel a feasible option. And in the mid-term... they are placing diesel generators to EV charging stations to provide power.
More coal... feed me...
SO IN REALITY... While we are told how good EVs are for the environment... which is solely based on the EV alone vs gas vehilces... the reality is that the total environmental impact is actually more than gasoline vehicles. EVs simply shift "where" the impact will be felt. So all things considered, they are not the saving grace of the environment.
But then again, like everything, it all depends who you listen to, who provides the information. The government would have you believe EVs are the answer. That alone would make you suspect of what they tell you. I'm sure congress has an interest in making EVs happen.... it will personally individually make most of them more millions.
More... more... more...
