A fall favorite when I was young was the original red candy apples. They seemed to be everywhere in the 1950s & 1960s. Today... they are basically non-existent.
The hard candy coating was sweet and flavorful and the apples were new crop fresh, crisp, and juicy. My earliest recognition was just 75 cents... later $1.50 to $2.
Many things are relegated to mere memories... where they will always seem to have been the best... red candy apples are no exception. Back then, the red candy apples were found at local events and festivals and were as common as cotton candy. Today they are seemingly only available via mail orders... and the prices, well, lets say OMG is an understatement.
I think I'll simply relish my memories of a favorite childhood treat for around a buck.
