Surveys are great

Surveys are great...
They tell you things,
Things that perhaps you didnt know.
Change your perspective,
At how you look at things.

A recent survey showed the guys
are very respectful.

How they choose the survey...
Okay... women when they wear a bikini
it shows over 90% of their body.

Men are so respectful...
They only look at the covered parts.

Now,  not only do you know...
But you know why.

Words of Encouragement

Words of Encouragement
Perhaps even Enlightenment.

Pepper?

Nope...
I'm not a Pepper!

Da...

Da,da,da ...
Da... da,da...
Da... da,da.

So... next?

Okay... Let's get started.
Today's question for which there is no definitive answer. So you might say... Why ask?
At what point does the "next exit" become "this exit"? Clearly if there is no exit in sight... the next exit is the one coming up. But, at some point, the next exit becomes this exit. Is it when you can see the exit? And when you can see the exit, with a sign saying you want the next exit... does it mean the one after this one?
Is it a distance thing? Anything beyind a 1/2 mile, is the next exit truly the one coming up... so next, becomes this! This is further complicated if you wife is your copilot. You will quickly learn that next or this is really irrelevant. And you will know this when she tells you that this or next really doesn't matter anymore. Its now referred to as the last exit... as in the one you just passed. I guess the word I'm looking for is turn NOW! See, life is so much easier when you don't worry about next or this... just listen to your wife. Sorry... I guess this post is completely unnecessary. Unless I'm driving alone. In which case I can always turn around... no, I'm not lost... just finding multiple way to get where I'm going.

Go Away

Go Away Winter...
Come on Summer!

Gone to die

Gone to die... In the woods.
The Virginia countryside is beautiful.

But it is muttered with abandoned
Old house and barns.
Simply being slowly reclaimed by nature.
Off the beaten path... in the woods...
Wrecked of old cars & trucks...
Taken there to die.

End of the line

The End of the Line...
Me... Only child of an only child.
I had no children.
All grandparents gone.
Parents... Gone.
No living relatives.
(Save a 2nd cousin)
End of the family line.

I am the last one to remember family.
After me... There is one to remember.
Kinda sad.

But like most families...
Beyond grandparents,
Clearly beyond great grandparents...
Everyone is forgotte... eventually.
List to time.

The era of remembering & honoring family
mostly ended with my parents.
Keeping in touch, visiting graves.
Faded away with me.
Beyond me... Completely gone.
Current family (marriage) will remember me...
But no one before me.
 I guess sooner or later...
Everyone fades from memories.
List in time.

The moral to the story...

While you still have living parents, grand parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, or even great grandparents... talk to them about their lives, and family history. Because, sooner or later, they will be gone, and that will be too late. And all you will be left with is unanswered questions.
Forever.

Old houses

Old Houses...
Old houses... well, they're old,  and could, okay will, have a multitude of issues.  But, there's old nostalgic charm to many of the features, inside and out. Features that are long gone from modern construction. Good surprises, and some expected bad one too. All in all, if your are prepared and have the resources to deal with the not so good issues,  you can have something unique,  perhaps even historic. The woodwork which is long gone today , which will usually require some refinishing.

Unique features like...
Witches stairs to 3rd floor

And unique things left behind.

And unexpected surprises
of historical significance.
I'm not sleeping in there!

Nope... They don't build them
like this anymore.

The simple life.

The Simple Life...

There's much to be said for a simpler life.
Despite all the technological advancements from the 1950s to today. All the things we lived thorough... during 8 decades, 2 centuries, and in 2 millenniums... has changed... and while most are are unbelievable by the 1950s imagination... they all could easily be traded for the simple life. Today's younger generations could never understand or comprehend a simpler life. Playing outside with others,  developing social skills, creating independent thought, and imagination. Developing true friends and relationships. Enjoying and appreciating nature. Riding bikes everywhere. Walking in the woods.
Playing catch... Playing with the family dog.

Sometimes,  with all the shit going on in the world, in society, the controversy and drama... The old days seems pretty appealing. Family dinners... sitting on the front porch... going to the beach or the parks. That's when everyone talked to eachother... no electronics or phones.
A ride in the country...

Yep... Simpler Times.
Happier Times.

Car Travel was coming into it own.
Nothing better than to take day trips.
National parks were a favorite.
Shenandoah National Park

Even today its a specisl place...
Absolutely Beautiful!
