To each their own

To each their own...
Just one more horror memory from my first marriage.
Just another reason why I say... "Don't sweat the first one".
Sunday dinner at my wife's brother house in the hollors of Kentucky. Out first visit and the first dinner.

Some background...
Him & his son hunt up on the mountains for all the meats they have. He built his own home... Clearly not up to construction standards. He use ruff cut 2x4's from the saw mill just down the hill. Made the upright studs in the wall 8 foot long... plus the top & bottom frame... That's a total height of 8' - 4" high. So when he hung the drywall, there's a 4" gap at the bottom all around the house. Flow through ventilation is guess. So sitting in the living room you could see the bottom of the bathroom toilet.  And if someone was using it... The toilet plus their feet on either side. Also evident that it was not sound proof.

But I digress... Sunday dinner. Odd smell even with the spicy ... I can't think of the right word... let generously say aroma. Looks confirmed that the shell was only the beginning... looking into the huge cook pan... I wasn't sure what it was.  I'm not to adventurous to try new things,  so this did not look good to me at all. My impressions of smell & appearance confirmed my extreme reluctance to even try this dish.

I alluded to the spicy content and my already upset stomach and elected for something different to eat. Alternative wasn't much better... but I was hungry. It was interesting to everyone eat the pig infused dinner with great enthusiasm. I had a fried bologna sandwich on toast... another local delicacy. Ketchup... No thanks, I'll eat it plain. The rest of the visit was fill with meats of unknown origins. Now I truly know where the expression of something tasting "gamey" originates.

Those folks were the salt of the earth. And I'm sure they do what they need to do,  or in fact like to do.  Just not my kinda food.

Breakfast with home made biscuits were delicious 😋.
