Remembering

As milder weather prevails all the local civil war battlefields hold events to commemorate and educate visitors about the battle and give insights to aspects leading up to the battle and how the battle unfolded, and its aftermath. Live re-inactors portray both soldiers on both sides and citizens before and after the battle. Encampments add to the historic atmosphere as if you were really there. During the re-inactment the sights, sounds, and smells of the battle surrounded you. The pounding of the horses as they ride by. The rifle and cannon fire fill the air with the smell of spent gunpowder. Quite the experience.  And you learn and see a bit of living history.

A bit of history in photos...

Of course, the stark reality is the human cost.
Thousands died on both sides.
