Years in the making...
The Baltimore Orioles. My childhood was filled with baseball... Specifically, the Baltimore Orioles. Lots of memories of the old Memorial Stadium at 33rd Street. Watching all the favorite players... actually... They were all favorites... Just some more than others.
The team coming through the 1960s seemed to always have a winning record. The 1970 Orioles, as I remember it, was the best year ever. Setting all kinds of records and winning the world series.
Such were childhood memories... Always the best.
Too many great players to mention...
As the years passed and childhood passed away, the team had its ups and downs. Seemingly more downs than ups. And while there were bright spots, they could not live up to the memories from childhood. The team and players were bigger than life... and nothing after that could measure up. Even the Ripkin years paled in comparison. Recently, after years of mediocre performance and unrealized expectations... Everything changed this year. The team is havingv the best start since the record breaking 1970 season.
Yes, and it's exciting. I've not been interested or watched more games since... Probably the 1970 season. It's a real treat no only to see the fans enjoying the team and the game... but the team enjoying the game and the camaraderie amongst themselves.
