Social Controversy
There's never a shortage of socially controversial issues. Especially when it comes to issues related to race. Closely followed by religious issues and controversy. Add to this political controversy, and numerous other controversial issues that continually perpetually create social division. Driven by the fact that personal freedoms clearly includes the right to force and impose beliefs upon others... namely the abortion issue. Controversy encouraged by politics, religion, and social groups... which by just the concept of divided social groups perpetuates exactly what they shout so loudly against.
And if you listen to every side of multiple issues... They will tell you... They are all right. Go figure.
Some issues seem more relevant, and some seem more frivolous... Of course this depends on your perspectives. Again, the biggest concern is not only about issues, but their resulting consequences upon others, as well as the end objective and result. Some are protesting civil war reinactments, while other desecrate Civil War graves and cemeteries.
So is the social division and controversy justified? Again... Perspective.
The ongoing controversy over government buildings, places, school names, street names, statues & monuments related to the slavery issue and the civil war. Some even want to change the names of some towns. All for the enrichment of personal lives, because it is demeaning and detrimental to see reminders about slavery. I don't really see how that enriches their lives, but to each their own.
And why is it only related to the civil war era? After all, it all began before revolutionary war times, and many of the founding fathers and prominent figures owned slaves... and lots of them. Why are they any less offensive as reminders of slavery?
Additionally... Before slavery ended, and after it ended, most black slaves took the last names of the slave owners as their sir names, or the names of the founding fathers that were slave owners. Popular names included Washington, Jackson, Franlkin, Taylor, and others.
So how is being named after slave owners not offensive, but civil war issues are 100% offensive as reminders of slavery?
Again... perspectives. And the more frivolous or intrusive upon others the resulting consequences are... The more they will be resented and found to be offensive to others. Creating more social division and more social tension. So itsca vicious never ending cycle.
A bit of history... The basis for feeling offended... the facts, and interpretation of history.
