Living in Virginia, there's a multitude of civil war battlefields. Preserved from not only for historical significance but also to honor those that fought and died on these hollow grounds.
Silent today but not forgotten.
History... There's the factual aspect and then there's the perspectives which are ever growing and different. From an historical perspective, facts are facts, and it is what it is. Philosophical opinions and perspectives do everything from saving history, to wanting to eradicated memory. And while the governing and political issues of the North verses the South was about the slave issue, the personal motivation of the everyday soldier on both sides had little to do with the slavery issue. The soldiers of the North were fighting to preserve the Union. The Southern soldiers were fighting under the propaganda and rhetoric of the powers to be in the south that motivated the soldiers to fight to preserve southern states rights to govern themselves. But then again, perspective shapes how history is written. Some perspectives today would have you believe that Southern soldiers were all slave owners and were fighting to keep slavery. Well to each their own perspectives and beliefs, which may be convenient to support your perspectives, sometimes contrary to the facts.

But, back to one of those battlefields. Cedar Mountain battlefield just south of Culpeper Virginia.
Once the site of battlefield deaths, now silent except for historical events and reenactments that not only bring history to life, up close and personal. If you are so inclined, here's the next event.
Ghosts of the past...
