Information!!??

Do we have too much information available? Or is how to apply that information what any degree of common sense still the real issue? Or perhaps is the agendas of others the biggest threat to common sense?

400_F_30283659_zPkl55rkj6oyV0dm280o06o9IEiuBnF0

When too much of the world intrudes on my life… this is my release valve. Thinking, rationalizing, writing, and seasoning with a dose if common sense… or at least my version of it. I start to write with one thought… which goes to another, and another, and ya never know where it will end up… aside from feeling better at the end of it all. Perhaps in reading, you too may have a good sense of wellbeing at the end… or at least I hope so.

Everything in our day to day lives, everything from our past, and everything for our future has two sides… good and bad. This is especially true for information. Everyday people have access to more information then ever before in history. Not just a little more, but almost limitless information. We have with the click of the mouse virtually unlimited information about anything and everything. Amazing when you think about it. The average person today can educate themselves better then the best collage education or learned person from a little as just 30 years ago. Instant and all encompassing information about anything. Too much information? Some would say yes. Too much misinformation, again, certainly yes. Do we get too much partial information… information that only tells part of the story… information that is slanted, intended to elicit support… information intended to create a emotional response… information intended to manipulate public opinion? And the answer to all these is a resounding … Yes!

Information made to appear overwhelming huge, emotionally charged, specifically to elicit an emotional response, slanted to manipulate opinion or support for someone else’s agenda. Definitely! Wow, now there’s a shocker.

Trivial things made to seem larger than life. Vitally important things made to seem irrelevant. So what’s important, and what’s not. What’s truthful, and what’s not. They say there’s some truth even in the most vibrant lie.

So what is to be done with all this information?  Good, bad, truth, lies, fact, fiction… how do you sort it all out? Well I’ll tell you… you sort it all out with the least used human ability and mental faculty at our disposal… common sense.

common sense

Common sense, defined as "sound judgment derived from experience and study," is one of the most revered qualities in America. It evokes images of early and simpler times in which industrious men and women built our country into what it is today. People with common sense are seen as reasonable, down to earth, reliable, and practical. But here's the catch. Common sense is neither common nor sense. There's not a whole lot of sound judgment going on these days so it's not common. If common sense was common, then most people wouldn't make the kinds of decisions they do every day. People wouldn't buy stuff they can't afford. They wouldn't smoke cigarettes or eat junk food. They wouldn't gamble.  In other words, people wouldn't do the multitude of things that are clearly not good for them. The bottom line is that if we can learn to think in more open and rigorous ways, we can draw the most accurate conclusions and make the best decisions possible for the myriad of questions, concerns, and issues we face every day, be they mundane or impactful. And we might just all get along a little better too.

So where does all this leave us. That’s up to the individual. Sometimes, no doubt, we all look at someone else going on and on about something that we find to be extremely trivial… and conclude… they need to get a life. There’s lots of media about things we can not change, like controversial topics on politics and religious beliefs. Some get into heated debates, some dismiss it as I don’t really care… as in, its not worth my time to think about it, or get upset over it. So things we have a passion for, and carry the torch for your cause or beliefs. As you get older, the torch is carried for less and less things, and many for things are dismissed as folly… not worth my time.

Perhaps common sense develops to a more refined state as you get older… and you see that the stuff that you so vividly fought for in your youth just isn’t so important anymore. Or perhaps you changed the world for your convictions, or at least your little part of it.

Either way, common sense, though it has many different perspectives, still seems to be lacking in this troubled world today. As does compromise… or simply the ability to agree to disagree. The ability to simply just get along. Sometimes is seems so easy to think that with a fraction of the effort that we use to disagree or argue, that everyone could just simply get along. So what’s the problem? Simply put… those that want to impose their beliefs upon others. Now just think about that for a moment. The biggest problem in society today is the many factions that want to impose their beliefs upon others. Be it politics or religion, there will always be those that can not, and will not subscribe to the premise to simply get along… they must impose their beliefs that they choose to live by upon others. How do they do this? First by adamant arguments persuade you, intimidation by social condemnation, the by inciting social prejudice, then politics, and when all this fails, laws to force you to conform. Different religions over the centuries has always wanted to convert others to their way of believing… and when this failed they resorted to condemnation and social prejudice… and then to political control. People the world over were put to death in the name of religion, simply because they believed differently. And it still happens today… though in most “civilized” countries, persecution and prejudice, and ultimately control, is achieved via political means.

Knowledge-mobilization-word-cloud

For a country that professes to have ultimate freedoms… how does the entire concept of simply getting along and the freedom to live your life the way you want, and mine the way I want… how is this concept so diluted?

Why should anyone have to conform to another’s religious beliefs?
Why is the premise of separation of Church and State only words?
Why do we encourage people to work hard, benefit from the rewards of that hard work… just to have the slackers and leaches  in society benefit from those that truly work. Take from the rich and give to the leaches.

It certainly seems like a world gone amuck… and it has. When will it stop? Exactly where it has repeatedly stopped in the past… with a total collapse of society. And it’s scary to think that there were cultures and societies that collapsed after 1000 years, and we are at that same abyss just after a mere 200 years.

Common Sense and the ability to simply get along. Yes, we are in the age of access to massive amounts of information and knowledge… but still can not simply get along. I can’t help but feel that the majority of people simply let the minority dictated the current social climate that is headed for failure. History repeats itself… but now at an accelerated rate. Are we racing to the end of the concepts that American was based on? Most would say yes! And for all the access we have for information… all the knowledge and experience of cultures that came before us… we still are heading down the path to a collapse of society. Politics, Congress and government is still operating “business as usual”, just as it has done to the detriment of the country for decades. Religions are still at odds with each other and wanting to force by any means possible, others to conform to their beliefs. You ask how? … one simple example is the abortion issue… why are religious groups trying to force, by politics and laws, force others to conform to their beliefs? (and this is just one of many examples). Where is the morality to all of this?

Information and common sense. One would think that the more knowledge we have,  the easier common sense would come into play. It must be true… it certainly isn’t common… and there is no sense to it all.

There are those that quietly go along with, agree with, and support those that would, as a minority, force their beliefs upon the majority. Those that would unwittingly go along with those that would negate the entire concept of simply getting along, agreeing to simply disagree, live and let live, and disregard the rights of others to have the freedom to believe what they want, and live their lives accordingly. I believe that most people of many religion have a live and let live, just get along mentality… but some of the leaders in control have their agendas to manipulate society to achieve their goals… goals to convert or force others to bow to their religious convictions.

This is why cultures and societies in the past have failed and collapsed. Politics, religions, and control… eventually leads to resentment, discontent, and ultimately revolt, and collapse of any given society and culture.

Information and common sense… just something to think about. Agree, disagree, take up a cause, support an agenda, or simply dismiss as falderal… it’s your choice. Just think about it before supporting others that would force their beliefs upon others.

Wouldn’t it be a better world if everyone could just get along. But realistically, historically, and with a high degree of certainly… this will never happen. But it’s nice to have a bit of wishful thinking. From a physiological standpoint… it may let you feel better about your day. Find a bit of comfort and peace.

Myself, I like to get away from everything, take a trip to the beach to clear the mind and give peace to the soul… get my toes in the sand, and let the water wash away your cares… at least for a brief time. Mentally refreshing and rejuvenating. Then I write. Profound words of wisdom… perhaps to some, but it’s not to persuade you, but more to get you to think about things, and perhaps find a little more peace and contentment yourself.

Hope ya all have a great day.

Almost got stuck…

Almost got stuck… all this white stuff can sometimes just be too much. We went for a short drive and it wasn’t long before the cleared roads came to an end. It wasn’t too bad at the start, everything was piled up on the sides of the road… and then… nothing but white… everywhere… and we ended up having to walk through it. We did walk for quite some time… but made it back home safely. Some people call this winter fun! Idoeno!

Space

Someday… mankind will make it to the stars and other planets.

What a day that will be.

star-trek-tv-uss-enterprise-hd-wallpaper-31744

One of a several things will happen…

1) Mankind will flourish both on Earth and another planets…

4_earth-like_planets_new

2) Mankind will make it to another planet before global conditions on Earth make mankind’s existence here as we know it extremely difficult or impossible… but, at least some percentage of humanity will survive here on Earth, on a frozen planet, for a while. Hopefully a large percentage will survive on a new planet. Just depends on how many get relocated, before it’s too late.

P1000249

The new hope of another Earth like planet.

original

3) Mankind will just be able to leave Earth, just prior to humanities destruction, with spacecraft as a life boat searching for a new home, somewhere, out there… adrift in space. This means an smaller percentage of humanity will survive, perhaps a couple of thousand, or less. But also means that 99.999% will perish here on Earth. On a dying frozen planet that can no longer support human existence.

8254696-winter-planet-earth--covered-in-snow-and-ice-planet-with-a-real-detailed-terrain-soft-shadows-and-vo

4) Mankind will pretty much perish, like the dinosaurs, before we have the ability to reach out to the stars and another Earth like planet on which to survive.

Humans-May-Be-Fueling-a-New-Mass-Extinction-Event-2

No survivors, except for a few doomsday preppers that will live long enough to see everything go before them, and eventually perish for lack of resources and food.

science-terre-20100322153957-1375-gallery

5) Or, the end will come much sooner than the technology and ability to leave Earth. All will perish.

earth-exploding

Given the history of the Earth, as well as what happens to other planets, the Earth will someday be a frozen waste land consumed in a minus 200°freeze that will kill mankind and most everything else on the planet. Or a collision with Earth will kill all life as we know it. Or a planet killing collision will completely destroy the Earth. All of this will happen… somewhere in geological time.

large4

But… this probably will not happen in our lifetime, nor that of our grandchildren, nor their grandchildren… perhaps not for thousands of years from now… or perhaps sooner then expected… but, it will happen.

If, as the many religions of the Earth proclaim, their God or Gods will someday return to save us. This is truly a great comfort given the alternative. Especially since it has been foretold that the Earth will be destroyed by fire. But religious beliefs aside… what if the promise isn’t what we expected. What if, saving mankind is more like the story of Noah… only two of each species will be saved? So out of the 7 billion human residents of Earth… only two will be saved?  Now there’s a thought to wake ya up. Not to be too controversial… but man was created in the image of God or the Gods (depending on your religion)  … so were we merely a existence to be created to give life to? Kinda like creating a butterfly and setting it free … just to do it, or perhaps to save it? Or as humans do today, created in some degree as and experiment on life? Or a little of both. What was the divine purpose of creating man here on Earth? The answers… they are shrouded in many different religious beliefs around the world. But as a matter of mankind’s life… we are here right now… so just enjoy it.

d07_20112356

NASA and science around the world are spending billions in research and manpower to make the future happen sooner. There are two schools of thought on this. One, it’s kinda good to think about the possibilities of going into space and to other worlds… plus the advantages of the technological advancements that result from the research. And two, that someday not only will mankind reach to the stars, but give survival of mankind hope facing the evident destruction of Earth, or at least escape from an uninhabitable planet that will not sustain human life.

Too much to think about? Probably! Here’s a couple of sayings to put it all onto perspective. “It is what it is”… just accept it, you can not change what it is, or what it will be. “Don’t worry about things you can not change” … ya might as well be happy knowing what you know… if ya can’t change it… ya might as well forget it.

From this perspective… how worried am I about my lifetime here on Earth… not much… in fact, not at all. But we all worried a little about our children and grandchildren, and the life they will have, but also glad about the wondrous things they will have or experience that we can only dream of. How concerned am I about descendants many generations from now… hundreds of years into the future… not at all… it’s just too abstract and distant to contemplate. A bit selfish? Perhaps. But no more them ancestors from 300 years ago were concerned about us today. You live in the very brief time of your grandparents, the brief time of your parents… your life, the life of your children, and hopefully a time with your grandchildren. And even possibly, your grandchildren’s children. Beyond that, life has little relevance or meaning.

So in closing… enjoy life and family. Children enjoy your grandparents and parents before they are gone. Grandparents and parents enjoy your children with the time you have remaining. Cherish each day… make the most of what you have… both for you and family. Dream of a better tomorrow… but live for today! Make someone smile and feel happy… everyday! Maybe even take a trip to the beach and get your toes in the sand… Ahhh! Perfect.

----------------------

A quick story: While in Key West, a restaurant menu contained Maryland style crab cakes. Okay the first clue is the word “style”. The second is experience, ya can’t get a good crab cake in the south. We asked the waiter what was in the crab cake. He went to he kitchen and returned with an answer. Before giving us the answer, he asked us if we’d mind telling him where we were from. Our answer was Maryland. He said, in that case, us being from Maryland, he was told to advise us that there was many others great items on the menu that we would enjoy!
That about sums it up… no good crab cakes in the south.

Remember… this is good…
in fact a little bit of heaven!

and you are not going to get it anywhere in the south.

Tomorrow…
Ahhh… pizza!

Wake up call?

CAM00119 Wake up call ??? No… I don’t need a wake up call. For the past ten years of retirement, or semi-retirement, I pretty much always get up at 6am (like I use to when I was still working). Recently it’s been 4am. No matter what time I go to bed, be it 10, 11, or midnight… up at 4am. Work a little, work a lot… no matter… still up at 4am. Mind is NOT racing, in fact not thinking about anything at all. Not worried or concerned about anything. No caffeine or sugar late night. NO reason to get up at 4am… so why has my internal clock reset to get me up at 4 am? Idoeno.

meridian_clock

Excerpts from internet sources…
What else do I have to do at 4am in the morning.

Have you ever wondered why you always seem to wake up during the night at particular times?

And it’s not just an odd night here and there. After a while you begin to realize you’re waking up again and again, the nights of sleeping through a distant memory. So you start to look at the clock and find it’s always at the same time between certain hours like 4am to 5am. You’re not drinking coffee late in the afternoon, you’ve cut down on your much loved sugars and you’re fairly active during the day (incidentally if you are drinking coffee all afternoon and you’re dipping into refined sugars, consider stopping and then see how you sleep!). Sure, life’s a bit stressful but how is it that it’s always 4am?!

Those who use Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) would tell you “that’s easy – look at the Chinese Medicine Meridian Clock”. It’s one of my favorite tools to use in Kinesiology. The great thing about the Meridian Clock is you don’t have to be a Kinesiology's or a Doctor of TCM to understand it or gain insight from it. So here’s a basic explanation to get you started.

The medicine of holistic kinesiology can treat a range of ailments.

  • It is known to ease chronic pain, headaches, migraines, depression, learning difficulties (including attention deficit syndrome), back pain, chronic fatigue, bed wetting, sleep difficulties, asthma.
  • It can also help with relationship difficulties, stress, anxiety, fears, phobias, allergic reactions, and setting and achieving goals.
  • Holistic kinesiology has evolved from the integration of specialized forms of kinesiology with anatomy and physiology, nutrition, communication studies, counseling skills, energetic sciences, etc.
  • Holistic kinesiology addresses the causes of the issue and prepares the body-mind to begin the healing process.
  • When a person is truly ready to heal, the results can be astounding.
What’s your time?

First, have a look at the clock above and find the time you’re waking up. Take note of the name that sits directly beneath it. For example, if you’re waking between 1am and 3am then you would look at the information about the Liver meridian. Don’t freak out – it doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with your Liver, it’s just the way they’re named in English.

14 major meridians – our electrical system

There are 14 major meridians or flows of an energy substance (you may have heard of Qi/Ch’i which sustains life) with 12 of them sitting within the 24 hour clock. All are constantly flowing with energy from our environment and penetrating our bodies through our skin. These portals on the skin are what acupuncture and acupressure use. Each has a two hour period where they are the primary meridian. Each meridian is linked to particular parts of the body, mechanisms of the body, other meridians, thoughts and emotions, color, sound, seasons and other spiritual aspects. They’re also partnered together as Yin (receiving energy) and Yang (expressing energy) of an element – Earth, Metal, Water, Wood, and Fire.

Think of it like electrical circuits – when the energy of a meridian is not flowing well due to a block (like stress), you’ll find that you’ll experience a sign or symptom from the meridian involved. This block will also cause an imbalance in the flows between meridians. So when waking up in the night at the same time, or becoming exhausted with 3:30 in the afternoon, you can look at the meridian at work and what may be happening with you. Here’s a list of the basic emotions of each element (the ring below the meridians).

  • Earth – Empathy, sympathy, balanced giving and receiving
  • Metal – Grief and loss
  • Water – Fear and anxiety
  • Wood – Anger, frustration and resentment
  • Fire – Love, hate and joy
What now?

Self reflection people! It’s really not that hard. Your body is trying to tell you something by waking you up at the same time. Back to our previous example, if your time is the Liver meridian and the Wood element – ask yourself “What am I angry or frustrated at?” Or think of the Liver organ and apply this to your life “What is toxic in my life that I need to get rid of?” Perhaps you have symptoms that your digestive system is not working so well?

I’ll leave you with this as food for thought. Spend some time to reflect on your life and what’s keeping you awake based on the ancient wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Is it an aspect of your life that wakes you up at night?

Maybe you’re a bit stuck and you don’t know what to do next? Or you’re waking up early and are caught in a mental loop of guilt over some kind of loss – a relationship, lack of happiness, a job. Often we don’t even realize our own feelings or behaviors until they’re pointed out to us. The key responsibilities (aspects of life) connected to each meridian is another useful avenue to self-understanding.

Meridians and their key responsibilities

The following table describes the basic responsibilities for each of the 12 meridians.

  • Stomach – Nourishment of others; nourishment from outside
  • Spleen – Nourishment of self in every way
  • Heart – Connection to your spirit; circulation of Qi (energy); heart and mind working as one
  • Small Intestine – Communication (speaking, listening); perception; truth
  • Bladder – When to use our resources; being controlling
  • Kidney – Reproduction and creating things in life; our resources
  • Pericardium (aka Sex/Circulation) – Intimate relationships; protecting your heart; healthy boundaries
  • Triple Heater – Non-intimate relationships; social aspects
  • Gall Bladder – Determination and decision making; action
  • Liver – Internal plans; the vision for life
  • Lung – Barrier (skin) to the outside world; understanding what is of true value
  • Large Intestine – Letting go of impurities (of emotions and beliefs, past experiences) ; holding on to what is of value

Of course, some sleeping problems stem from the inability to even fall asleep at night; the dreaded insomnia. Do you find yourself helplessly awake watching the bedside clock tick loudly over to midnight with your mind ticking away even louder? Midnight puts you in Gall Bladder (11pm – 1am) and the Wood element. Ask yourself “am I stuck and not making a decision about something or acting upon it?”, “have I lost perspective?”

Extending the use of the clock beyond sleep

There are many patterns and signs in our lives; you just need to have your eyes open to see them, for example: anxiety around 4pm, headaches late at night, or a sore lower back before dinner time.

Your body is speaking to you in the only way it can by turning your attention away from the external world and inwards toward you. With the transferable knowledge of TCM you can use the clock for any time of day, not just sleeping problems.

Benefits of holistic kinesiology

Like all natural therapies, holistic kinesiology aims to improve your health and wellbeing by stimulating your body's own healing potential. Holistic kinesiology is a very broad form of complementary medicine, encompassing many aspects of both Western and traditional medicine. Holistic kinesiologists are trained in the structural, emotional, nutritional, electromagnetic, energetic, metaphysical, physiological and psycho-spiritual areas of natural holographic healthcare.

In holistic kinesiology, virtually every area of complementary medicine is used, including acupressure, nutrition, chiropractic, blood and lymph reflexes, various forms of counseling, homeopathy, traditional Tibetan and Indian medicine, reflexology, and aromatherapy. What is unique to kinesiology is the use of manual muscle-monitoring feedback to provide understanding and an appropriate solution to the client's issue.

The answer within

Holistic kinesiology aims to provide understanding and solutions to the causes of your issue. The reason for your issue, however, always lies within you. For example, you may suffer from a sore and stiff neck and feel anxious and stressed. Is the stress due to the sore neck or is the sore neck due to stress? It can be either. In one case, muscle feedback may prompt the holistic kinesiologist to work to defuse the stress causing the sore neck. In another case the practitioner may work on the sore muscles that are causing you stress. The holistic kinesiologist would look for factors that are causing the muscles of the neck not to function well.

Holistic kinesiology does not diagnose or treat symptoms or conditions; rather it merely addresses relative underlying stress patterns associated with imbalances in the system. Once the stress has been corrected the indicator muscles will respond accordingly, confirming a positive change. This change in muscle response anchors the changes into the body, giving it conscious positive feedback. This also gives the body more information and better strategies if the same situation occurs again.

Interesting reading… skeptical to say the least… but interesting. Don’t think I’m ready to plop down hundreds of dollars to understand more or potentially solve any problems… so I guess I’ll just get use to getting up at 4am… or wait for the this latest waking trend to pass. After all… it’s not really  problem… I’m not tired or fatigued. Not worried, stressed, depressed, or excessively thinking about anything. In fact, very much so at peace with everything.

Like most forms of medical or healing… it’s a business. It’s goal to provide a health service/benefit and make money. Sometimes I truly wonder if the main element isn’t to make money, and if you get a benefit from the service you incidentally come out ahead.

Don’t get me wrong… medical doctors provide a needed and valuable health service. Indirect medical services like chiropractic doctors provide a valuable health service, despite the disapproval of some / most medical doctors.

Beyond that… Fringe medicine… does apparently have some positive health benefits… but I’m a bit skeptical… okay, 98% skeptical. But like most “fringe medicine” or health programs or products, I can’t help but feel they prey on those looking for cures or results beyond conventional medicine and plop down their money on a hope and a prayer for a cure or to feel or look better. But perhaps some truly do work… for a price. Some just want your money for a “lick and a promise”.

If you look to the social conscience for truth in advertising the clues might be in the fine print. “results not typical” … “the FDA has not evaluated the benefits of this product”… “not intended to solve medical issues” … “she’s a paid spokesperson” … and the list goes on and on. Everyone selling something is looking to get your money… yes, even those with money back guarantees (they know even if you are not satisfied, most people won’t return it)… or if they do, it’s less shipping and handling now more commonly called processing fees… and they have still made money off of you.

Promises of making you feeling better from whatever is bothering you… loosing weight… looking younger… having more hair… living longer… being happier… emotional wellbeing…  sex appeal… or whatever you want to change about yourself… there’s a fringe medicine, product, or service to promise the positive results you are looking for. Some may actually work, for some people… or at least they are paid to say so. Well, if they paid me lots of money to say something really works ( thinking anyone would listen to me), hell yeah… I’d take the money, skirt the truth, and tell you it’s nothing short of a miracle… that’s advertising! That’s why, despite laws about making unsubstantiated claims… the saying is still… “Buyer beware!”

So where is all of this leading… Idoeno! Other then the fact that I will still be getting up at 4am for no reason at all.

All I know for sure, I know less now then when I first got up… having read about the reasons why. And that if I plop my money down… someone can explain it to me… possibly even help… but probably not. But I’d emotionally fell better knowing that I have a greater understanding even if the results I seek are not typical… and won’t happen for me.

What can I say about all this… in a word… falderal!

Y’all have a great day, and help yourself the most by doing it yourself… there are rarely any miracles remedies. Besides, I feel emotionally better not giving anyone my money to understand an unsolvable issue… and spending it on good seafood, crabs, shrimp, or scallops, or the occasional porterhouse steak! Now that makes me feel good! Emotionally and physically… and I still have money in my pocket!
