As explained... "Equality" means we all start in the same place. But that's not fair because not everyone starts in the same place, some people need help.
Equity means that those that need help will be given help so that everyone ends up in the same place.
So... Basically... people will be give help, help, and more help, so the can achieve equity in the end. That's the plan, no matter how long it takes.
Conversely... Those that work hard to prosper will subsidize the help for those that don't start in the same place and need help, so that everyone is equal in the end.
So there are those that work hard to prosper, so they can be in the exact same place as those that are subsidized all their life.
There is no incentive to work hard to have it taken away and given to those that "need help" which have no incentive to work hard because everything is given to them... so that everyone is in the same place in the end.
This is the Democratic Party philosophy. It also advances the democratic agenda to keep providing more help to ensure more votes to keep them in power.
Just something to think about.
Of course that's just one perspective... as for myself... I worked hard all my life to see career welfare people "that need help" drive better cars, buy better food, eat in better restaurants, and get more and more handouts... free medical care, housing allowances, free smart phones, and the list goes on... While they make no effort to work better themselves.
