Thoughts from childhood

Thoughts from Childhood

Things that you experienced when younger have a way of sticking with you the rest of your life. Good, bad, right, wrong... Especially those things that made perfect... Absolutely perfect sense to you all those many years ago... and still make sense today.  My mother had an entirely different idea of right and wrong in several topics. This concerns one particular thing... washing dishes by hand.

Now... This made sense to me then,  and somewhat, okay mostly,  still does today... from those 50 plus years ago. If all the dirty dishes are put into the sink,  the food debris covers everything, requiring a thorough washing, top & bottom,  or if you prefer front & back. Now... consider this... if the plates are put on the counter for washing... ONLY the tops of the plates are dirty. I bet you see where this is going. Since only the top requires washing, its only takes half the work to clean the plates. Saves time, soap, and effort. The bottoms were already, and still remain clean... so washing bottoms is a complete waste of time. Again, my mother clearly had an issue with this line of thinking. Sometimes absolute logic suffers greatly from established procedures. Go figure.

Maybe its simply a guy thing.

So, today as an adult, that same logic is ever present. Washing dishes, especially plates, that are to be washed, bottoms still clean... why wash the bottom... only the tops need to be cleaned. Note... I do rinse the top and bottom after washing the top. Again, saving time & effort.  Not completely sure what my wife would think... no need to ask... right?

But... it all makes sense... at least to all the purely logical people. But its still not necessary to upset those less logical. So we won't consider telling them... That would only create issues.

But then again... if they knew, I might never have to wash dishes again.
So there is  logical upside.

So... That's my tip of the day.
