History...
History... it tells us everything. Ancient history, world history, United States history, European history. I guess its not everyone's thing... but talking to my three teenage grand kids is clearly disappointing how little they know even about U.S. history. The extend of their knowledge when questioned about any historical event is... "yeah, I heard of it" and that's about it. They know absolutely nothing about history. They know nothing about world history. When asked if they knew anything about the world wars their response was about the same... They heard about it... what do you mean there were two?
They heard of the civil war, the Vietnam war, and middle east wars, but had no concept of when they were or why they were fought, or who fought in them. When asked who bombed pearl harbor they guessed... Americans? Who did we fight in the American revolution... They guessed Indians? Basically, they know absolutely nothing about history. What are the schools teaching? I heard that schools have stopped teaching about the American civil war for fear its controversial and that people do not get offended. They actually asked me if I ever met Abraham Lincoln... no concept of time and events. They have no idea about historical people in history.
It's a strange new world for the current generation. Feels like the "its all about me generation" ... well, its exclusively all about them and nothing else matters... Especially history. I asked if they knew anything about the Titanic... but nothing other than it sank... right?
