Facebook & Instagram

Facebook & Instagram

Anyone that has used Facebook over time, has seen more and more  "sponsored ads". They became so numerous that those ads occupy up to half the posts in your news feed. And as people using facebook declined,  the sponsored ads became even more invasive. Facebook gave people a way to hide ads, and select or de-select advertisers. In the beginning this processed seemed to work fairly well.  But all the ads that were once eliminated are quickly replaced by a host of new advertisers. And it seemed that for every ad hidden, two new ones to its place. And when you would hide an ad,  you got the message that you won't see this again. They lied.. Those same areas were back the next day, sometimes sooner. Being annoyed with ads that  "hiding" failed to work, the next step was to report this ads.  This too had little short term effect. So with ads overtaking news feeds, more and more people stopped using Facebook.

Recently for me,  an inquiry ( or clicking learn more ) produced an onslaught of endless ads about a health issue. And again,  the more I would hide or report,  the more appeared.  At the last count 13 out of 15 posts were about that health issue. Expanding the count,  there were over 50 sponsored ads just for that day, and I hadn't even reached the beginning of that day.
My last straw, and a Prelude to leaving Facebook, I posted the following... Blacking out my header page and photo.

Amazingly... The next day all the sponsored ads related to that health issue were completely gone. Clearly the powers to be at Facebook got a red flag and removed the ads. I still may not go back to using Facebook.
