Media

News media... Social media.

I'm not sure which is more detrimental.

Least affected: Those born in the in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. We grew up learning how to deal with issues... solving problems, forgetting what we could not change,  and getting on with our lives. And certainly not getting involved with drama filled issues that didn't personally affect us. Basically learned how to be happy.

Affected:  Those born in the 80s and 90s. They have a somewhat conflicted lifestyle over controversial and drama filled social issues. They go between a normal happy life and then being triggered by issues that get them emotionally upset.

Most affected:  Those born in the 2000s. Greatly influenced and conflicted over... everything! Social media encourages and enfuses every aspect of their life with drama, controversary,  and conflict. There is little escape from the clutches of social media influence. Social interaction reinforces the "its all about me" mentality.  They embrace the total concept of me generation. If anything is not to their liking then it's unfair and rude. And everything that does not personally affect them is still a point of self induced drama. There is no place to simply be happy. Interaction via social media is a platform to promote controversary and animosity. Development of social skills is greatly lacking. No one can let anything go and simply be happy.

Perhaps this is just my perspective... Influenced by observing my three teenage grand daughters and their friends. All growning up with this mentality. But watching the news media, those in their 20s and 30s share these some of these same attitudes of drama and conflict.

And while the outcome of this mentality may prove to be some long term benefit to society... in the short term... drama, controversary, anger, contension, and the loss of peace, contentment, and a happy life seem to be a high price to pay... both personally and the effects on society.

Take from it what you will. Just one perspective and observation.
