Escape into old books. For some reason, old books hold a special interest. Not only are they from a place and time in history, but there's that feeling that you are reading and identifying with someone that has long since parted ways with this world. Their thoughts and feelings left behind for you to read and enjoy, which in some way keeps them alive. The look, the feel, the smell, the texture of the pages takes you to a different place in time. Writings were different those 70, 80, of even 100 plus years ago. A good book will transport you back in time to experience different emotions and feelings that are lost in today's world. Makes you wonder about the author and how many people have held and read this book over the passage of time. Sometimes you'll even find handwritten notations and wonder about that person too. Ideas from a different time, expressed in simpler heart felt manner with all the references to times forgotten. It's like traveling into history, or a different world filled with wondrous fantasy. Something that is lost in this electronic age where everything is on a computer or tablet screen. I use to think old books just smelled nasty, but now everything about them is a joy to your senses. You might think that old books lack the sophistication of writings today, and in a modern sense, perhaps they do. But they have a charm all their own, not to be found on any screen. The old phase of curling up with an old book is certainly more appealing than ever. The feel of the pages as you turn them, thick and somewhat stiff... the texture of the book cover and the paper itself... even the feel of the raised ink printed on the page... Yep, there's nothing to match an old book. Just imagine someone reading this same book by the light of a candle or the light of the fireplace. You can almost smell the word burning and see the flickering of the flames as the light dances across the pages as you read. Yep... Nothing like an old book. Happy reading.
